Martha R. (Portman) Wooldridge, 83, of Louisville, KY passed away on November 11, 2021, of natural causes.
Martha was born on March 28, 1938 to Joseph Raymond and Martha Olivia Portman (née Lush) in Louisville, KY. She attended Valley High School from 1953-1956, then graduated from comptometer training and worked at the L&N Railroad for 5 years. Later in life, Martha held positions as a water aerobics instructor, both at the Southwest YMCA in Louisville, and at the South Park Country Club. She was an enormously creative and talented seamstress, sewing almost all her girls’ clothing when they were younger, including dance costumes (many of which were her own designs), prom dresses, and bridesmaids’ dresses for their weddings. She also loved spending time in her garden, all forms of needlework, making pottery, and flower arranging.
Martha married James E. Wooldridge on November 9, 1957, and they had 4 children. Martha was predeceased by her husband by only 4 months. She is survived by her children, Joni Lea Wooldridge, Janet Marie Mongilio (David), James Edward Wooldridge, Jr. (Teresa), and Julie Hope Baker, her grandchildren, Brian Mongilio, Jessica Mongilio, Rachel Baker, Hannah Baker, and Amanda Wooldridge, her sister, Catherine Nanna, and her brother, Raymond Portman (Gayle).
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 from 4 - 7 pm at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Home East, 11601 Ballardsville Rd. Louisville, KY 40241. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 17th at 11 am at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 212 Mt. Mercy Dr. Pewee Valley, KY 40056.
