Versa Gambill

GAMBILL, VERSA COLLINS, 96, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully on Sunday morning, March 23, 2014, in Crawfordville, FL. Versa was born in Wayland, KY, and earned her teaching degree from Eastern Kentucky University and a master's degree in education from University of Louisville. For over 36 years she taught home economics and family living at Valley, Butler and Ballard high schools in Louisville. She will be remembered by her former students for her interest in cooking, nutrition, sewing arts, and gracious entertaining. She made many friends as she pursued hobbies in doll collecting, button collecting, and tennis. Versa was a longtime member of St. Matthews Baptist Church. She is survived by her children, Kenny (Berna) Gambill of Crawfordville, FL, and Mike (Linda) Gambill of Innsbrook, MO. She is also survived by her three beloved grandchildren, Tom (Sarah) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Todd (Lacy) of Troy, MO and Christie (Bill) Kelemen of New Braunfels, TX, and by dear great-grandchildren Nathaniel, John, Benjamin, Frederick, Alex, Evan, Luke, and Anna. She was preceded in death by her husband John Emery Gambill. with burial to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens East.
