Mary Elizabeth Roos, 27, died Sept. 3, 2021, taken from us far, far before her time. Left behind to grieve and wonder why are her priceless daughter Layla, her parents, sister, nieces, aunts, uncles and more cousins than Abraham saw stars in the sky.
Born Feb. 7, 1994, and immediately adopted, Mary was known for her idiosyncratic personality, which spawned the shrugging family expression, “Mary is Mary.” She competed in basketball, volleyball , tennis and swimming in her grade school years, but her greatest joy came from horses, which she rode, bathed, groomed, talked to and even kept tabs on when they had moved on in the equine world. She attended Norton Elementary School, Mother of Good Counsel Middle School and Mercy Academy before graduating from Jefferson County High School. She was baptized and confirmed at Mother of Good Counsel Parish (now St. Bernadette).
In addition to Layla, Mary is survived by her parents, David and Kathleen Roos; sister Emily Ragan (Joshua) of Bowling Green; nieces Isabella and Madelyn Ragan; and the aforementioned throng of aunts, uncles and cousins in a sprawling yet close-knit family. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Eugene and Joyce Roos and J. William and Marie Burke.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, with visitation at 10 a.m. Mary will find eternal rest at Louisville Memorial Gardens East, where her parents will someday be blessed to rejoin her. Memorial contributions may be made to Second Stride Inc., 7204 Hwy 329, Crestwood, Ky. 40014.
