Marilyn Baldwin Irwin of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away February, 13th, 2024, returning to her Heavenly Father. Her priorities in life were God, family and teaching. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 24, 1942. She graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University with a degree in mathematics and then received a M.A. from Vanderbilt University in mathematics. She retired from Jefferson County Public Schools after teaching mathematics for thirty years at Butler High School and Ballard High School. She was an adjunct professor in mathematics at Jefferson Community College, University of Louisville, Indiana University Southeast and then Purdue Polytechnic for sixteen years. In addition to her love of teaching she loved working in her church.
Her parents, Richard and Hettie Baldwin preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Taylor Irwin of 60 years and children, Heather Samantha Stevens (Scott) of Crestwood Kentucky, Holly Michelle Churchman (Robert), of San Diego California and Michael Burke Irwin (Kimberly) of Bagdad, Kentucky. She also leaves behind seven wonderful grandchildren and many friends and special students.
Visitation will be at Louisville Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home East on Wednesday, February 21st from 3pm to 7pm. An informal family brunch and further visitation will be at 9am on Thursday, February 22nd at Christ’s Community Church of the Nazarene, with a funeral service to follow at 11 am. In memory of Marilyn, donations can be made to the Youth Department at Christ’s Community.
