Jerry DeForest Henderson

Jerry DeForest Henderson, 88, of Louisville, joined his heavenly Father on April 11, 2024. Jerry was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on September 5th 1935, the son of the late Mary Fox Knoefel and Jerry Bennett Henderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Margie, and his siblings Lincoln and Malcolm.

Left to cherish his memory are daughter Debbie Clark (Jeff), sons Eric (Jennifer) and Steve MacDonough (Sherry); grandchildren Nathan, Lilly, Alec, Brandon and Chris; three great-grandchildren; brother, Greg Henderson (Barbara); and numerous relatives that reside in Kentucky, Oklahoma and Texas.

Jerry came from a proud military family that lived in multiple states, Oklahoma, Alaska, Washington, North Carolina and eventually made a home in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a veteran of the United States Navy spending most of his time aboard the USS Randolph as an Electronics Technician. After the Navy, Jerry attended the University of Louisville for engineering, working at his father’s TV shop in downtown Louisville. He eventually landed a job at Vermont American before a long and successful career at General Electric.

After retirement, Jerry focused on spending time with Margie and his family. They enjoyed traveling to visit grandchildren, time in Pigeon Forge and Branson Missouri, and loved taking cruises and beach vacations with family and friends. Jerry also had a special relationship with his church and served for many years in different capacities wherever he was needed. Forever a hobbyist ranging from electronics tinkerer to artist to amateur winemaker, Jerry loved spending time in his workshop working on multiple projects and handing down those skills to others.

Visitation to celebrate Jerry's life will be held at Louisville Memorial Garden East on Monday, April 22nd, 2024 from 11:00am-1:00pm with a brief service at 1:00.
