Joanne Pitchford, a devoted wife, mother, and teacher, passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 82 in La Grange, KY. Born on April 21, 1941, in McLeansboro, IL, she was the beloved daughter of Hershel Mayberry and Edna Stewart Mayberry. Joanne is preceded in death by her  husband of 57 years, Larry Pitchford, her loving parents, and her dear step-mother, Lillian Mayberry Gholson . She is survived by her loving son John Pitchford (Amy); her cherished grandchildren Kaitlyn and Jeremy; and her nieces and nephews, Mary LaBeaume Howell, John Vaught LaBeaume, and Stacy Vaught. 

After completing her education at Southern Illinois University, Joanne earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's of Education. She went on to work as a dedicated teacher until the birth of her son. Joanne made the selfless decision to leave the paid workforce to focus on raising him and caring for her husband and their home. Her commitment and dedication to her family were truly commendable.

Joanne's warm-hearted nature shone through in all aspects of her life. She was known for being kind, caring, and incredibly creative. Teaching was not just a profession for Joanne; it was her passion. She found joy in shaping young minds and nurturing their growth.

In addition to teaching, Joanne had several hobbies that brought her immense happiness. She was an accomplished quilter who sewed entirely by hand, making each stitch with love and care. Her quilts were works of art that reflected her creativity and devotion. Joanne also had a fondness for Christmas and had an impressive collection of Santa Claus figurines that adorned her home during the holiday season.

Joanne's proudest accomplishments extended beyond her personal life. She was an active member of Crestwood United Methodist Church where she found solace in her faith community. Additionally, Joanne was a valued member of the Oldham Hills Homemakers group where she formed meaningful connections with fellow homemakers.

To honor her memory and celebrate her remarkable life, visitation services will be held on November 6, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Louisville Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home East located at 11601 Ballardsville Rd, Louisville, KY 40241. Following the visitation, a graveside service will take place at the same location from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM.

Joanne Pitchford's legacy of love, kindness, and creativity will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her impact as a teacher and a homemaker will continue to inspire future generations. She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories that her family and friends will cherish for years to come.
