Douglas Thompson Gilman of Prospect, Kentucky passed away on March 14, 2022 at the age of 69. He was preceded in death by his father, William Douglas Gilman III, and his mother, Sarah Thompson Gilman. Doug was born on January 14, 1953 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was baptized and grew up in the Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church. He attended The Bright School, McCallie School and the University of Tennessee. During his younger years, he wrestled and later played on a softball team called the “Fonty Dogs”. His father taught him to play golf which he always enjoyed. An avid fan of Tennessee Volunteer sports. Doug was a very caring person who loved spending time with his family. Throughout his life he remained a close and faithful friend to so many he knew from his youth, and until recently they met for yearly reunions. Doug had a successful career with Key Wallcoverings and with Mobile Paint, and in the past decade he served on the Board of the Mobile Paint Company.
Doug is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sharon Gilman (Reber); children, Christa Thornton, Robyn King and David Nierman; grandsons, Chase and Zachary Thornton and Triton King; sister, Sally Gilman Dove; brother, Tommy (Geniese) Gilman and many loving nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 4 - 7 pm at Louisville Memorial Gardens East Funeral Home, 11601 Ballardsville Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40241. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 2nd at the funeral home at 11:30 am with Doug’s nephew, Chad Townsley officiating. Immediately following will be a Celebration of Life luncheon at the outdoor tent. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doug's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate
