Tribute

Linda Kaye “Cooke” Gernert, 66, passed away at her home in Crestwood, Oldham County, Kentucky, on Monday, August 22, 2022.  She was born on June 7, 1956, to the late James and Ruby Cooke in New Albany, Indiana; however, her hometown was always said to be Shelbyville, Shelby County, Kentucky.  She would say that she grew up at 919 Henry Clay Street.  She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she held several callings such as Relief Society Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, Librarian, Choir member, Visiting Teacher, etc.  Her life, as she would say, was being a Christian and member of the Church.  She spent her life working diligently on genealogy work on behalf of her family whom she dearly loved.  Her interests were varied such as singing, sewing, gardening, artwork, etc.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Phillip Gernert III.

Linda is survived by her three children, Katarina Elizabeth Oakleaf (Stephen), Roberta Dawn Ezell, and Jamie Nichole Ward (William, Jr.); her two stepchildren, John Phillip Gernert IV (Sherry) and Steven Lynn Gernert, Sr.; her eight wonderful grandchildren whom she dearly loved and were the sunshine of her life, Rachael, Michael, Andrew, Steven Jr., Anthony, Claire, Breanna and Haley; her greatgrandchild, Percy; her brother, James Franklin Cooke; and her sister, Mary Jean Coffey.

Funeral Services for Linda will be held at 6PM on Friday, August 26, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6401 Westwind Way Crestwood, Kentucky 40014.  Friends may call on the family on Friday from 3PM until 6PM at the Church.  Interment will be at 10AM on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Louisville Memorial Gardens East, 11601 Ballardsville Road.
