Janet M. Shoaf

November 10, 1934 ~ March 21, 2021 (age 86)

Tribute

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Janet Maddox Trainer Shoaf on March 21, 2021. A loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched.  She passed away peacefully at the age of 86, surrounded by loved ones, at her residence in Louisville, Kentucky.

Raised in Fairfield, Ohio, she was born in 1934 to Ernest and Jennie Maddox, who preceded her in death along with her brother Glenn and sister Cherry.

Janet lived a full life as a pioneer of the incredible changes in her world, devoting herself both to the well-being of her family as a wife and mother, and to the welfare of others as a career nurse and healthcare administrator. Both roles perfectly suited her servant heart and tenacious drive for excellence.

Janet and her sweetheart Harold enjoyed 38 years of loving marriage.

They spent many happy hours listening and dancing to big band music.

She was the beloved mother of Dawn Trainer Patterson and Melissa

Trainer Holmes as well as helping to raise Harold’s children Joe, (Mary

Lou Myers), John, Kathy, Frank, Rob, Margaret Baser and Howard. She

enjoyed mentoring all of her children and was a huge influence for all

of them.

Janet was Nana to 19 grandchildren: Heather, Gabriella, Tiffany,

(Zachary), Kayleigh, Taylor, Dakota, Jennifer, Kyle, Emma, Alex, Allen, Jake, Drew, Will, Adam, Emary, Halle and Linley. She was very proud of

all of their accomplishments and was an avid fan of their sports

endeavors.

Her landmark career in nursing and long-term healthcare administration impacted countless lives in our local community, most notably in her roles as President of Wesley Manor Retirement Community in Louisville, Kentucky, and Director of Nursing at Mercy Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She held an MBA from Xavier University (‘81), graduated from Christ Hospital School of Nursing (‘55), and was a graduate of Fairfield High School (‘52).

Janet loved music and dancing and was an avid sports spectator. A talented seamstress and highly skilled with knitting needles and cross stitch, her hands were rarely still. As a gifted leader with a heart for others, she used these talents and interests to bless her family and community, including the St. Bernadette Catholic Church. A homemaker at heart, gathering her family together around a home-cooked meal was another passion not to be understated.

Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her loved ones strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
