Shirley K. Veatch, 82, of Corydon, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024. She was born on July 15, 1942, in Crestwood, Kentucky, to John and Dorothy Bland. Shirley was a devoted mother, memaw, sister, and friend, and her love for her family and faith in Jesus Christ were the cornerstones of her life.

Shirley was a long-time member of Memory Lane Church, where she made a lasting impact. She dedicated many years of her life serving as a Girl Scout/Brownie leader, mentoring young girls with her strong guidance and nurturing spirit. Known for her directness, Shirley was a woman who spoke her mind, and her famous saying, "It's my way, or the highway," reflected her no-nonsense attitude. Shirley had a zest for life and was an adventurous spirit, always dreaming of becoming an airline stewardess. Her love for travel, creativity, and exploration was evident in her many interests. She enjoyed working on renovation projects, sketching, and crafting, always bringing her unique vision to life. In her spare time, Shirley played music with her band, The Joyous Christians, where she shared her love for melodies and fellowship.

Her strong personality and generous heart touched many lives, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Shirley is survived by her children, grandchildren, siblings, and a host of other family members and friends who cherished her presence.

Shirley’s legacy of faith, love, and determination will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, John Bland and Dorothy Dejarnette Bland; brother, Sonny Bland; sister, Betty Allen; and a niece, Valerie Beavers.

Left to cherish her memory, Shirley is survived by 2 daughters, Janet Calvert, and Lucia Reece (Ray); 6 grandchildren, Matthew Reece, Machele Reece, Katie Adams, Cheryl Peck, Aaron Paragon, and Alan Paragon; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Rose Conaster; 2 brothers, Gene Bland (Bonnie), and Rick Bland; and a host of extended family and close friends.
